Javier Martinez-Picado, Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) at IrsiCaixa, Spain
Javier Martinez-Picado is an ICREA Research Professor at the AIDS Research Institute IrsiCaixa in Barcelona, where he leads the Retrovirology and Clinical Studies group. He is also an associate professor at the University of Vic (UVic-UCC). He received his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Barcelona, where he also lectured as an associate professor.
He later engaged in HIV/AIDS research at the Harvard Medical School (Boston). His current scientific interests focus on understanding how HIV causes disease and the research of cure strategies. He co-leads the IciStem consortium to investigate the potential for HIV cure by allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
He serves on several governmental, academic and industry advisory boards. He has published more than 170 papers on HIV treatment strategies and HIV pathogenesis in international journals.
